Dom Powstańca Śląskiego is a seven-storey public utility building located in the very center of Katowice at 3 Jana Matejki Street. Erected in 1936–1937 and designed by Zbigniew Rzepecki in the functionalist style, it is one of the most important examples of interwar modernist architecture in the city. The building was originally constructed as the headquarters of the Silesian Insurgents’ Association and from the outset served representative, cultural, and social functions. It housed shops, conference rooms, a banquet hall, a restaurant, and a cinema with 500 seats. The façade features a plaque commemorating the defenders of Katowice. During World War II, the building was a site of resistance and combat, and after the war it served veteran organizations. The property is listed as a historic monument of the Silesian Voivodeship and underwent a thorough façade renovation between 2021 and 2022. Dom Powstańca Śląskiego stands out for its exceptional artistic, historical, and symbolic value, being an important element of Katowice’s identity.
